Gethsemane V Ext Enterance

Gethsemane Cathedral

Fargo, ND

After a fire destroyed the 90-year-old Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral, we engaged the church congregation to design their new cathedral. Through hands-on workshops based on community input, a unique Prairie Gothic cathedral was born.
The Vision

This cathedral's exterior design appears consistent with the architectural traditions of the northern great plains, while opening up inside to reveal an exuberant sanctuary space.

“The cathedral has all of the characteristics of a Gothic building, yet it looks like it belongs on the prairie.”

Interior light is especially significant due to the dark winters of this northern latitude. Skylights allow light to play through the roof structure and stained glass invites colored light to sweep throughout the nave over the course of a sunny day.
